[Feedback Request] Feedback on Ceasing Release of OpenStack Wallaby (W) Starting with openEuler 24.03 LTS SP5

Dear openEuler community users and developers,

The openEuler OpenStack SIG has long been responsible for selecting, packaging, and maintaining OpenStack components within openEuler releases. To better plan future maintenance efforts, we plan to adjust our release strategy for the Wallaby (W) version and are now publicly soliciting community feedback.

1. Proposed Change

  • Starting with openEuler 24.03 LTS SP5, the OpenStack SIG intends to discontinue releasing software packages for the Wallaby (W) version.

  • Software packages for Wallaby previously released in earlier openEuler versions will continue to be maintained under the existing policy and will not be affected by this change.

2. Background for the Change

  • OpenStack upstream Wallaby (2021.1) was released on April 14, 2021, and officially reached End of Life (EOL) on December 19, 2025, after which upstream no longer provides security fixes or bug patches;

  • Community maintenance resources are limited, requiring us to focus efforts on versions with higher adoption and longer lifecycle support;

  • As newer versions are being adopted, the community usage share of Wallaby continues to decline.

3. Impact on Users

  • If you plan to deploy Wallaby on 24.03 LTS SP5, official software packages will no longer be available;

  • Existing Wallaby deployments are unaffected and will continue to receive maintenance and updates as before.

4. Feedback Request: We Need Your Input

We are seeking real community needs, especially from users still relying on the W version. Please reply below with your responses to the following questions:

  1. Are you currently using Wallaby? If so, in what business scenarios and at what scale?

  2. Do you have plans to deploy or set up a new Wallaby environment on SP5?

  3. If Wallaby is no longer officially released, how would you respond? (e.g., migrate to another version, continue using existing packages, or other plans)

  4. What kind of support or information would you like the SIG to provide during the sunset process?
